Galle & the coast
Family Holidays in Galle, Sri Lanka
Galle works well for families — a manageable drive from the airport, a mix of calm beaches and easy sightseeing, and enough space at the right property to actually relax. Here's what we'd suggest.
Choosing where to stay
For families, a self-contained villa with its own pool and garden tends to work better than a busy hotel — children have space to play, and parents aren't managing shared facilities. Villa Inlet Galle has a secluded courtyard pool, a garden running down to a private beach area, and rooms sized for families rather than couples only. See our accommodation guide and full list of facilities for details.
Easy days out with children
Galle Dutch Fort is walkable and interesting even for younger children, with ramparts to explore and a lighthouse to spot. The Gin River estuary next to the villa is calm enough for a gentle boat ride, and several nearby beaches — Unawatuna in particular — have sheltered, shallow water that suits families better than open-surf beaches. See our guides to Galle Fort, beaches near Galle and things to do in Galle for more.
Food for fussy eaters
Villa Inlet Galle's kitchen is fully Halal and can cater to dietary requirements with advance notice — worth mentioning when you enquire if you're travelling with children who have specific needs.
